Trinity United Church of Christ of Winchester, Virginia represents a good
cross section of the Shenandoah valley people. As people everywhere,
we have our old ones and our young ones as well as those on the way.
And we remember those who have gone before us also.

Almost any church goer (or want to be) can fit in at Trinity.  We have
people who believe in evolution and those who do not. We have people
who love the old testament best and those who love the new testament
best. We have people who think the world is getting better and we have
people who think it is not.

Now we come together because of several things. Our pastor, Reverend
David Byers, is a Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) trained minister.
That is fine with us;  before the UCC we were a Congregational Christian
Church. That means when different opinions are expressed we can always
"agree to disagree." Other than that we tend to forget what else we agree
on.

Blessed with a rich endowment of a paid for building and money in the
bank we spend our time on evangelistic efforts. We sponsor two Girl
Scout troops. This year we started a short Sunday night service of "Praise
and Worship" which is mostly singing to Karaoke music. For us that is
music plus the words on a TV screen. And we have a new 1200 foot
walking Labyrinth being developed. The Labyrinth needs more flowers and
the new "Praise and Worship" service needs people   but we move on.  It
even has a side trip to the "Wishing Well" ( wellhead actually).Tuesday
nights we have a prayer study hour.

In the past twenty five years we have had four ministers. Reverend David
Byers joined us in 1998.  Before that Reverend Roland L. England was
with us for five years.  Reverend England is starting up a new church over
near where US 340 crosses the Potomac river.  Then for about the prior
seventeen years Reverend Paul Marsteller was our pastor.

If you trace back all sixteen ministers before Reverend Marsteller you
arrive at our birth in 1909. Starting in 1908 Dr.  W. T.  Walters began
preaching one Sunday a month in Winchester.  The congregation
numbered seventeen members ( yes, including women for you history
buffs) when the church at 20 West Cork Street was dedicated. So we are
extremely happy to say we have more members than that now.

That church lasted until 1977. A fire bug caused it to go to the ground.
(This bug set four other churches on fire also. ) Talk to our older members
and you will think this fire was just yesterday. Not so, in fact in 1990 we
dedicated our new building on Middle Road. Modesty prevented us from
naming the fellowship hall the Conner Fellowship Hall until this year; but it
was Monte Conner who worried the new building into existence. Our
favorite saying at church is "Monte said ...".

Now you know "about us." If you are in our area, just stop in for our
traditional service on Sunday morning, or our praise service on Sunday
evening. We would like to have more people at our church. Besides we
feel certain that there are views on Christianity which are not well
represented at our church. Probably need to be these views just need a
spokesperson. Remember we think we can always "agree to disagree"
and still have a great church bigger than we were just ninety some years
ago.
